BOWLS RACE NIGHT 2012
Stuart Mace & Alan Hancock
“Cheltenham Festival Race goers were getting their eye in by attending the Burton Manor Annual Race Night, with over 90 persons in the hall it was an exciting evening’s entertainment. Hosted by John Bates, the Tic Tac Man of the Manor, the punters were quick to invest their money through the tote sellers, Marian Pearson, Helusia Hancock, Pauline Dunn, and Anne Burge. Payout albeit somewhat begrudgingly was completed by Graham Burge and Alan Hancock!
The big winners focused their minds on The Jackpot run by Linda Arrowsmith and the evening came to a climax with the infamous “Auction Race” ….John Bates encouraged the bidding and a well known local syndicate scooped the top prize.
Fish and Chips, collected by Roger Arrowsmith and Anne Burge was devoured with enthusiasm ( with home made mushy peas for some) , and the whole event overseen by the Godfather (Dave Pearson) , all washed down by subsidized real ale provided by the clubs beer supplier.
All in all a good night was had by all, and it raised a welcome contribution to club funds which will be put to good use for all the members.
Bring on 2013! “
